BLUE MDCCCXLII

BLUE MDCCCXLII ( Read BLUE 1842 ) is a special series composed of unique prints on watercolor paper, around the GARAGE BANDS exhibition.

The technique used is cyanotype. In 1842, W. Herschel discovered that ferric salts became ferrous salts under the action of light. If ammoniacal iron citrate and potassium ferricyanide are mixed in certain proportions, a photosensitive ferric salt is created. After exposure to ultraviolet light, ferric salts become ferrous salts and form togetherwith potassium ferricyanide a precipitate of ferrous ferricyanide (Turnbull's Blue) insoluble in water.

This property makes it possible to produce deep blue photographic prints with a pictorial aesthetic.
